Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province has renamed its Department of Information Engineering as the “Engineering Department of the Metaworld”.
Pan Zhigeng, dean of the renamed faculty, said the move would identify business needs and train experts in the meta-universe for companies operating in the field. According to Zhigeng, the meta-universe is now an integration of a wide range of technologies and applications, such as the Internet of Things, blockchain, artificial intelligence and smart healthcare.
Students in the meta-universe engineering department will be trained to work in three different fields, including smart health, smart education and digital tourism. Three working groups will be established to promote the university in these areas: the meta-universe research institute, the smart meteorology research institute and the smart medicine research institute.
Training meta-universe professionals is gradually becoming a global trend. This month, leading market player Meta partnered with Victoryxr to provide meta-universe development training to students at ten US universities. A little later, the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) announced a collaboration with online learning platform TimesPro to create educational programmes on blockchain, cryptocurrencies, NFT and Web3.
Earlier, the Ivy League Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania announced that its Aresty Institute for Executive Education would launch the Business in the Metaworld Economy certification programme.
