Ethereum (ETH) cryptocurrency creator Vitalik Buterin donated $4 million in USD Coin Stablecoin (USDC) to fight epidemics.
The money went to the Kirby Institute, which is developing the digital tool EPIWATCH for early warning of pandemics, invented by Professor Raina McIntyre.
The artificial intelligence-based software created by the Australian scientist analyzes data on the Internet, such as news and reports, finds signs of rising infectious diseases and sends alerts to Department of Health officials.
Imagine what would have happened if COVID-19 had been detected before the virus spread around the world. EPIWATCH is independent of humans and studies information in real time.
The tool is able to bypass censorship and is superior to an underdeveloped health care system,” McIntyre said.
Raina is using the funding she has raised to release localized versions of EPIWATCH for low- and middle-income countries.
Buterin believes that analyzing data in the public space will make it possible to identify dangerous diseases more quickly. This will give medical professionals a chance to stop the epidemic before it becomes a pandemic.
