Telefonica, Spain’s largest telecommunications company, has entered into an agreement with local exchange Bit2Me to enable cryptocurrency payments on the Tu.com marketplace.
The Tu.com platform focuses on selling high-tech goods such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and electric scooters. Users of the site will now be able to pay for purchases using digital assets. Telefonica has also invested in Spain’s largest exchange, Bit2Me, but the amount of the investment has not yet been disclosed.
Telefonica has previously shown interest in the cryptocurrency industry and blockchain. The company recently launched its own non-mutual token trading platform (NFT) with MetaMask wallet support. Telefonica has also partnered with microprocessor maker Qualcomm to develop an augmented reality platform, SnapDragon Spaces.
Recall that back in 2020, Telefonica and other European telecom companies tested the use of blockchain for roaming payments.
